Chris
Head of Policy & Public Affairs
I was struggling to find a subject which interested me at school and then took A levels in politics. Since then I’ve been fascinated in Politics in all its guises.
I studied how politics works in theory and practice (and the huge gap in between) at Warwick University and then did an MA in contemporary political theory. I thought about becoming an academic but couldn’t hack long hours burning the midnight oil in the library.
My first encounter in the world of work (except paper-rounds, selling ice cream and fish-mongering) was an internship at a think tank. As well as mastering the art of a well brewed cafetiere, I researched for policy papers and helped organise events at party conference.
After five years advising clients on building their reputation at Lansons Communications and two years at Santander, I joined Nationwide as Head of Policy and Public Affairs. My job is to help Nationwide understand how political developments affect Nationwide and its members – never a dull moment given politics today. I also help Nationwide campaign on behalf of our members, particularly in housing.
