Finance

Numerical ability and problem solving are undoubtedly a large part of finance, but teamwork and good communication are equally important.

Managing money is big business, with the financial services industry leading the world in terms of earnings and capital. This means that many jobs in the finance sector are well paid, making roles attractive to many.

For many finance positions, a level of numerical ability is required, but maths isn’t everything. There’s an array of roles that require project management, organisation, teamwork and communication skills. There are some spreadsheets, but not all day every day!

Lots of careers in finance start with trainee scheme in which you complete a professional qualification alongside work. Schemes are open to both university graduate and school leavers, there are many more graduate roles, but school leaver programmes have become more popular in recent times.
